Toilet facilities in the villages are very poor. The people dig a hole in the ground put some boards over it an fence it with bamboo, wood and grass mats. When the hole is full sand covers it and a new one is made.
Road users and truck and drivers just squat along the road and it is no wonder that periodical outbreak of cholera and typhoid flair up. Golokuati who’s situated on the cross road from north to south and east to west it s a great problem. Therefore she has assisted the village in building a twelve seater KVIP toilet Four other village on the highway have also benefited from this program. In 2004The water problem for Golokuati was solved a mechanised borehole and a fourty cub. meter water tank was constructed, together with 10 km pipes through the whole village with 22 stand pipes . The long queues by the hand pumps was a thing from the past, especially during the dry season. The river where the people took the water from dried up during those months. This project reduced the water born diseases greatly.Another positive side effect is that children especially girls went more regularly to school for it is their duty to collect water for the family, This can now be done before or after classes.Women s live became more relaxed for they too had not to wait for hours to collect water any more and more over the tension at the hand pumps died down. Frustration could lead sometimes to fighting. The original inhabitants were of the opinion that they were having more rights than the outsiders. A lot of people in their frustration walked to another river but the water there is heavenly polluted with insect- and weedycide used by farmers in dry season farming near the river. The same river is often used as a toilet and people are washing their dirty clothing a few yard away from where they collect their drinking water.
This unhealthy situation is also thing from the past With the Help of a Ghanaian engineer, the assistance of the population and financial aid from the Netherlands this project has become a blessing for the people of Golokuati.
